At ILD, parents and adult clients meet with one of our psychologists, educational and/or language specialists to review the student’s educational and developmental history and to discuss current concerns.  During our consultations, we are able to put a “face” on the concerns you express and to form a relationship with you and your family. With an understanding of each student’s unique history, we provide guidance along with specific recommendations that foster self-esteem and academic growth. We build partnerships with parents, schools, and other relevant professionals, help our clients navigate the educational process, and provide follow-up services for our clients and students for many years.

What does the consultation process look like?

A consultation is the first step in understanding the student’s case and accessing services at ILD. Whether you are seeking objective advice, an evaluation, educational or speech & language services, counseling, or a follow-up, a case review and consultation is one of the most important parts of the process.

  1. To set up a case review and consultation, please contact us.
  2. Once your appointment is scheduled, please complete the intake questionnaire form. If you would prefer, call our office, and we would be happy to email or send it to you. Please bring the completed form along with other relevant information to your appointment, (i.e., IEP, progress reports, 504 plans, previous testing, report cards, and samples of student work).
  3. During the first part of the session, the specialist reviews the information you provide.  With this background knowledge, the specialist meets with you to listen to your concerns, to address your specific questions, to provide direction, and to suggest possible evaluation and treatment approaches.
  4. If you wish to begin ILD services,  this meeting assists us in matching the student with an ILD specialist who has the desired skill set and personality to help address the student’s needs.

* Please note: Consultations are not typically covered by health insurance.
