Joan Steinberg, M.Ed.

Director of Educational Therapy
Educational Specialist

Joan is the Director of Educational Therapy and an Educational Specialist. She provides consultations to parents and teachers, as well as assessment and educational therapy to students. As one of the math specialists at ILD, she has given many professional development workshops in multi-sensory math strategy instruction to teachers in public and private schools. In addition, she has expertise in working with students who have nonverbal learning disabilities (NVLD) and has presented workshops on that topic as well. Joan believes that students who with learning differences benefit greatly from having an adult “ally” to help them navigate their way through the organizational and academic challenges of school.

Prior to working at ILD, Joan was a special education teacher and then the Director of Education at The Harbor Schools, Inc., a residential treatment center for adolescents with learning, behavioral and emotional disabilities. She has an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Rochester (Phi Beta Kappa) and earned a Masters in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
