Workshops and Classes

At ILD, we believe that parents and professionals need up-to-date information and cutting-edge research-based educational strategies to help students who struggle with reading, math, writing, attention, executive function, and motivation.  ILD presenters anchor their talks in their clinical and educational expertise and knowledge of students with LD, ADHD, and executive function difficulties.  For professionals, ILD offers workshops, presentations, and consultations that target your specific school’s needs.

Classes for Students

For students, we offer small group classes on a variety of topics, including a summer reading book club, SSAT and ISEE classes, and Master your Mind, an executive function class for middle school and high school students.  In each of these classes, students learn strategies that will enable them to improve their approach in specific areas and to enjoy the process of learning. Given the small teacher-student ratio, the students create their own strategy notebooks that emphasize those strategies that work best given their individual learning styles. Individual parent consultations and follow-up sessions are available to help transfer the strategies learned in the classes to the students’ academic work.

Workshops for Parents

Our parent workshops are held to support families whose children or adolescents are struggling with executive function processes. Typical problem areas that parents are faced with include:  procrastination, organizational difficulties, poor time management skills, and lack of effective checking strategies.  Through our workshops, parents better understand the underlying causes for these EF difficulties, as well as learn new approaches grounded in research and best practice.

Workshops for Professionals

ILD and ResearchILD offer a variety of learning experiences that target a school or school district’s specific educational needs.  We offer a wide array of professional development to meet the needs of individual schools, public and private, as well as school districts. We believe that a well-designed professional development plan incorporates many layers of learning.  The plan may include an introductory presentation or workshop, quarterly strategy sessions, bi-weekly or monthly individual or small group observation and coaching, and an end of the year strategy fair.
